The Benefit of Yoga is Not About Turning Yourself into a Pretzel!

The benefit of yoga, contrary to popular opinion is not about being able to turn your body into a pretzel. As a result it is turning people away from a valuable system of healing.

Benefit of Yoga Why is this myth so strong out there?

Because here in the West, yoga has become all about the physical body where only skinny vegetarians in tight fitting clothes feel comfortable attending class.

As is typical in the West, we have forgotten that yoga is more than physical posture - it is about the mind body connection. Physical postures are of course important, but are only a small portion of what yoga is all about.

Remember earlier on the website when we were talking about all the types of stress- the physical stress, emotional stress and chemical stress? Well, the benefit of yoga is simply in its design to directly relieve all of these kinds of stress, not just the physical.

So if you are walking into a yoga class that is simply about postures and there is no talk of yoga breathing exercises, meditation benefits or the human energy system, then it would be my suggestion to 'make like a cobra' and slither out of there!

Be sure to find a yoga teacher willing to teach all benefits of yoga as it was meant to be taught: Mind, Body and Spirit.

The Benefit of Yoga Hits the Top 10:

There is hardly one benefit of yoga.

Rather, the benefits of yoga are almost too numerous to speak of.

Many people come to yoga looking for help with a specific condition, like low back pain, headaches, heart disease, menstrual discomfort, cancer, etc.
