Creating a mission statement, according to all great leaders, is among the best uses of your time in life ever.
Because creating a mission statement is what will give your life direction. It will create clarity for you in terms of how you are going to create what it is you want to create.
It will set the bar for living on purpose.
It will set forth your destiny into motion.
It will guide you to stay congruent and in integrity with your deepest desires.
Did you get all of that? Your Mission Statement will determine the following:
If you can spend some time creating a mission statement and defining your life's work, there is nothing that will ever be able to pull you off course.
Your mission statement for life is like an anchor. It is a solid platform grounded in your core beliefs that will allow you to jump and reach great heights in all you do.
Just the other day I was listening to a powerful lecture by a woman named Laurie Woodward, the wife of Orrin Woodward, the international, NY Times best selling author of Launching a Leadership Revolution and a man recognized currently as the world's 6th top leadership guru.
Laurie was talking about 'drifting' in life. When we are not absolutely clear about where we are going, when we have not defined our goals, when we are not living on purposeliving on purpose, and when we are not following our destiny as set out by our mission and vision statements then we find ourselves 'drifting' off course.
She went on to discuss the fact that we drift slowly at first, but it is the slow drift that takes us far off course in time. We make a seemingly small choice to sleep in rather than getting up to do our morning meditation routine, we decide to stop for some fast food on the way home rather than cooking something nutritious, or we tell ourselves we are too tired to go to the gym tonight.
It is absolute and unwavering consistency that creates mastery in life. It is the small drifts day after day that add up to lack of success at the end of the year and at the end of a lifetime.
Creating a Mission Statement and using this as your compass and guide in life, will allow you to stay on your course so that at the end of your life, you have left the world a better place than when you began.
What do you want to be remembered for?
Consider for a moment that you will die tomorrow. What will be said at your eulogy? How will your community remember you? Who will come to pay their respects?
Did you leave a legacy?
Just the other day, a friend of mine sent me an email and in that letter, she told me how cute it was when another of her friends (a woman I've only met 3 times in my life) has started to use the phrase "Think like Lisa, and it will all be okay."
Wow! That totally blew me away to think that I have impacted this woman when I don't even know her.
This to me was a reflection that I am living on purpose; that I am establishing a legacy and touching the lives of many people around me.
My life has a ripple and it is positively influencing those directly and indirectly connected to me.
The purpose underlying all of my writing on this website is simply to help you create your own legacy, to help you get well enough to reflect your inner radiance and light into the world.
I therefore ask you to begin refining your goals refining your goals and creating a mission statement right now. Take the time to define how you will share your greatness with the world.
I enjoy learning by example myself, so if you learn this way too, please feel free to read my own personal Mission Statement which can be downloaded here for you to review. My husband and I have also created a Mission Statement for our marriage. I am including that here too as another example.
If you are like many, even after reading this page and knowing without a doubt that you want to sit down and start creating a mission statement and that you desperately want to leave a legacy, but perhaps you just don't know where to start.
If this is you, then I would suggest putting your pen down and start doing some mental fitness and spend some time taking stock of your life, your goals, your character and your dreams.
What I would suggest is you start by doing this fabulous Mental Fitness Challenge that has been produced by Orrin Woodward, a world leader as a motivational, inspirational and leadership guru.
The Mental Fitness Challenge is by far the best thing I've seen to help turn people's lives around and help them to get on the path of leaving a legacy.
And after you try all of this, as always, if you have any questions, please, PLEASE feel free to contact me. This is so critical and I would be honoured to assist.
