Meditation Stress Relief: Anytime, Anywhere - Even on the Loo!

There is a false belief that says in order to achieve meditation stress relief you must sit very, very still, and clear your mind.

Are you picturing an old, bald man sitting on top of a mountain or in a cave?

If you are, clear that image and replace it with an image of you, an image where you are walking around in your daily life with a sense of inner peace and calm. Don't worry about how you are going to get there just yet, just feel the sensation of inner stillness.

You may already be feeling better through the powerful act of visualization, but let's go deeper into meditation itself.

In reality, although there are many ways to create meditation stress relief, which I will discuss in other parts of this website, the goal in all forms of meditation is to experience peace.

And the beauty of it is that there can be a cacophony of chaos, noise and business surrounding you. There is no cave or mountaintop required!

What is Meditation Stress Relief?

Meditation simply means conscious focus.

That means being in the moment.

It is the Power of Now.

And when you are in the moment, you experience stress relief. Simple. That is meditation stress relief.

Meditation does not have to be anything fancy, it just means being present and allowing your mind to clear all the babble, the 'what if's' and the 'to do' lists that are running through our heads at sonic speed.

No wonder we can't find inner peace. There's no room for peace with all that we occupy our minds with.

Try this next example of meditation stress relief with me. It won't take up any extra time in your day, and instead, you may find that it actually puts you in a bit of a time warp...

Time for a Washroom Break:

Start with a trip to the loo.

Get completely centered with a few deep breaths and then as you get up from your desk, focus, consciously and with control on every movement you make, every step, every breath.

Really get present with what you are doing. Feel what your body is saying. Is your back sore? How about your bladder, is it full and distended? Really tune in to the dance of the present moment - to all the things that you normally ignore.

And in the 3 minutes that it takes you to journey to the washroom, sit for a moment back at your desk and reflect.

How do you feel? Are there any Aha's for you?
