Radically Preventing and Transforming Work Related Stress, Together we can Make a Difference.

Numerous surveys and studies confirm that work related stress is by far the leading source of stress for American adults, and these occupational pressures and demands have steadily increased over the past few decades.

Work related stress of this calibre does not translate into companies with leadership potential.

Instead, according to an excellent source, The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOISH), this is what we find in typical work places:

  • 40% of workers reported their job was very or extremely stressful;
  • 25% view their jobs as the number one stressor in their lives;
  • Three fourths of employees believe that workers have more on-the-job stress than a generation ago;
  • 29% of workers felt quite a bit or extremely stressed at work;
  • 26 percent of workers said they were "often or very often burned out or stressed by their work";
  • Job stress is more strongly associated with health complaints than financial or family problems.

The above information was obtained in a 1990's survey conducted by Northwestern National Life Insurance Co, Princeton Survey Research Associates, St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co., Yale University and The Families and Work Institute.

Although these stats are 20 years old, they are not only relevant, many studies indicate that work related stress statistics have gotten worse.

According to a Survey conducted by the Marlin Company in 2000,

  • 80% of workers feel stress on the job, nearly half say they need help in learning how to manage stress and 42% say their coworkers need such help
  • 25% have felt like screaming or shouting because of job stress, 10% are concerned about an individual at work they fear could become violent

A Special Note to Employers: in case you think that you may be exempt from addressing this issue, please note that Health care expenditures are nearly 50% greater for workers who report high levels of stress (Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine).

Presenteeism and absenteeism are serious challenges that cause heavy economic burdens to you and your company. The annual cost in Canada of work time lost to stress is calculated at $12-billion (Statistics Canada, 1999).

From my own personal experience I KNOW work related stress has gone through the roof and is a primary reason for the creation of this website in the first place.

It is time for a radical transformation of unprecedented proportions.

Where do we start?

We start with a vision of change. And a vision of leadership.

We start by defining the causes of work related stress and then investigate solutions that will serve all parties (the employer and employee of primary interest).

As I look to the literature, we find the following items cited as causes of job burnout:

  • Differences of individual characteristics and coping styles
  • Differing opinions and management views
  • The design of tasks
  • Lack of balance between work and family or personal life
  • Lack of supportive co-workers and positive interpersonal relationships
  • Absence of a relaxed, inspirational and co-creative atmosphere
  • Environmental concerns of poor lighting, ventilation, ergonomics, etc.

These are all valid conditions, which in my opinion can be resolved to a large degree by working with the concept of ONE.

What do you mean, working with ONE?

I believe that by working either one-on-one with individuals as in private settings or in groups in corporate settings, it is always boils down to making a difference in the life of ONE.

It is about sparking the passion of each individual and guiding him or her to use their best resources in not only their personal life, but within the heart beat of the corporation. The strength of the whole is born out a group of inspired and empowered individuals.

When ONE life is changed, there is a ripple and I believe that ripple can be experienced in the work place to create workplace stress relief.

How do you plan to work the concept of ONE?

We all experience stress based on one false premise: "I Am Not Enough".

All of us do it and cause ourselves tremendous stress. Can you hear yourself saying any of these things?

  • I can't meet the dead line. My boss is going to hate me.
  • I feel so frustrated when Julianne does not communicate with our team. When this happens, I end up having more work to do and it puts me further behind and makes me look bad for not knowing.
  • I feel entitled to more time off. I am not a good enough parent.
  • No one understands my way of doing things. I am so different. I feel so alone.
  • All of these conversations are about getting to the core issue of lack of self power and is at the core of all work related stress, and most emotional stress in general.

    I am trained to work with your team and your work environment as a collective whole, raising awareness and eliminating functional stressors in each and every ONE.

    This is possible, simply because we are all ONE and have the same basic issues that prevent us from being the best possible us that we can be.

    Once we light up our own inner passions and ignite the "I am Wonderful" button in each of our hearts, the company and workplace becomes unstoppable. Leaders are born and there is nothing that the team cannot create or accomplish.
